About the Show

  • What is Mexodus About?

    MEXODUS uncovers the untold story of the Underground Railroad that ran south into Mexico. Creators Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson perform this groundbreaking hip-hop musical, building the soundscape live each night with looping.

  • What is the Recommended Age?

    MEXODUS is recommended for ages 12 and up.

    MEXODUS doesn’t hold back. This powerful, truth-telling experience includes strong language and references to racism, racial violence, and sexual abuse—all essential to the story and handled with care. Younger audiences are welcome at a parent or guardian’s discretion.

  • What is the Run Time?

    Mexodus is 90 minutes without an intermission

  • What Is Live Looping?

    Live looping is the real-time recording and playback of sound or music, usually with a device called a looper. It allows musicians to layer rhythms, melodies, and harmonies to create full arrangements on the spot.

Audience Advisory

    Mexodus includes haze and fog, loud, sudden sounds, and flashing lights.

  • What's the content advisory?

    The show has strong language, including racial slurs, talks about violence, mentions of sexual abuse, and themes of racism.

MEXPassA Student Ticketing Initiative

In partnership with The Movement Theatre Company, MEXPass provides subsidized tickets to students across all five boroughs and the tri-state area for all performances, including dedicated student matinee performances. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire, engage, and uplift the next generation of Black and Brown voices by inviting them to experience the transformative power of live theatre.

Students also have the opportunity to engage more deeply with the story through a supplementary study guide provided alongside the performances, enriching their understanding of the historical themes behind the work.
